Properties of Saffron

Dr. Carlo Di Stanislao, specialist in dermatology and member of AIFF Italian Association of Phytotherapy and Phytopharmacology, describes the precious properties of Saffron and explains the reasons why these products are unique.

Saffron is a flower that takes on different sensory nuances and organoleptic and nutraceutical characteristics depending on the place where it grows. The peak of quality is reached in the Plain of Navelli thanks to the particular pedoclimatic characteristics which are present in the area, concentrating in the product a very high percentage of Crocin.

This antioxidant carotenoid counteracts cellular aging and the accumulation of free radicals and increases the immune system. Rich in vitamins including vitamin A, B1 (Thiamine), B2 (Riboflavin). Italy is one of the richest European countries in terms of biodiversity, both animal and vegetable.

L’Aquila Saffron D.O.P. is cultivated in the Navelli plateau between the massifs of Gran Sasso, Sirente, Valle Subequana, Majella and Valle Peligna.
